DOWNRIVER RUNNERS MEETING MINUTES FOR 1-16-08

Meeting was called to order by Club President Tony Mifsud.  Tony thanked everyone for all the help keeping this Club going for so many years.  He will be taking a little more time out to be with his family.  Dan Martinez (Vice-President) presented a $100.00 gift certificate for Total Runner to Tony as a token of our thanks for all his hard work.

Treasurers Report:  Karen Donaldson reports that bills are paid and we have approximately (My words) $2,400.00 in our checking and $15,800.00 in a CD Savings Account.

Old Business: AP8K-Mark Kerr (Our new race director) reported that we made $2,000.00 this past year.  Please e-mail him with suggestions for shirts and awards for next year.  Next year he will be adding a special High School 2 Mile race the same day as the AP8K.  Course will start at the same place as the AP8K but will be an out and back course completely on Park Avenue. He will market it separately.  Mark also wanted to thank all of the volunteers for helping.

New Business: We need a new Year End Banquet Coordinator.  Gloria Standaert will be taking a much deserved rest.  Thanks for the great job in the past.  If you are interested in taking over this project, please contact anyone on the Board of Directors.  Job only entails Calling to make reservations, pick out the menu, set up decorations (which we already have) and send out the invitations.

More new business:  Nina Derda spoke briefly about the Tony Mifsud Scholarship Fund and invited anyone who may be interested in helping with that committee to contact her directly.  Deadline for the entry for consideration of the $1,000.00 Scholarships is June and they are awarded at the Club picnic in July.  See attachment for a list of all previous winners.  Criteria used for the Scholarships are participation in the News-Herald Championships, School GPA and extra curricular activities.

Still more new business:  Paul Vockler (Our new race director) reported that everything is going along fine for the 21st Riverview Winterfest.  We always can use volunteers for this event to help with course marshals and organization.  Extra event this year will be a 4 x 1 Mile relay, so we can especially use help for timers and exchange zones.  Long-sleeved cotton t-shirts and a yummy pancake breakfast will be given to all participants with the breakfast profits going to the Riverview Track Team.

Gary Olsen asked that anyone who wants to contribute any articles, race results or whatever for the newsletter should get them to him ASAP.  Also, the club voted to buy scorekeeping software for Gary’s computer to keep us up-to-date.  Also, please get your dues into him if you have not paid them yet.

Election of Club Officers:  Officers were elected as follows:

President-Dan Martinez

Vice-President- Gary Olsen

Treasurer-Karen Donaldson

Secretary-Lynn Ketelhut

As usual, the pizza didn’t have a chance and meeting was adjourned.
